Terms of Service
Last updated: February 11, 2026
1. Agreement to Terms
By accessing or using Shard ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, you may not use the Service.
2. Description of Service
Shard is a personal insights platform that allows you to import, organize, query, and visualize your data. The Service provides a canvas-based workspace where you can create tables, run SQL queries, build charts, and interact with your data through an AI-assisted interface.
3. Accounts
You must create an account to use Shard. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You must provide accurate and complete information when creating your account and keep it up to date.
4. Your Data
You retain full ownership of all data you upload, import, or create within Shard. This includes CSV files, database tables, queries, charts, and any other content you produce using the Service.
Each user's data is stored in an isolated SQLite database provisioned specifically for their account. We do not access, sell, or share your data with third parties except as required to operate the Service or as required by law.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' databases or accounts
- Upload malicious files or content designed to exploit or damage the Service
- Use the Service to store or process data subject to regulatory compliance requirements (e.g., HIPAA, PCI-DSS) without prior written agreement
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers connected to the Service
6. AI Features
Shard may use third-party AI models to assist with data analysis, query generation, and other features. When you use AI-powered features, relevant portions of your data may be sent to these AI providers for processing. AI-generated outputs (queries, charts, summaries) are provided as-is and you are responsible for reviewing and validating any AI-generated results before relying on them.
7. Service Availability
We strive to keep Shard available and reliable, but the Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access and may perform maintenance or updates that temporarily affect availability. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Shard and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or revenue, arising out of or related to your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claims arising from or related to the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Service in the 12 months preceding the claim.
9. Account Termination
You may delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms. Upon termination, your isolated database and all associated data will be permanently deleted within 30 days.
10. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you via email or through the Service. Your continued use of Shard after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
